Hooked Carpets and Rugs

Hooked rugs make nice throw rugs. Hooked area rugs are made with shorter hooks that loop over the pile. Unlike hand-tuft, which has a similar make, hooked rugs do not have piles cut from thick loops.

These rugs have lightweight backings made of mesh rather than weighty backs of canvas or other like materials the hand woven rugs. Hooked rugs come in a large range of patterns and designs... French designs, traditional and other styles. Though they tend to be smaller than other rugs. They also tend to lack edges or fringes.

 Most hooked rugs are found at craft shops or art fairs, due to their handmade nature. Kits to make hooked rugs are often sold at these same places. Some places online will let you design your own rug. They print the pattern on themesh and then provide the yarn or other materials to pull or "hook" through the mesh, thus creating the rug.
